5. This camera bag insert tutorial.

I am definitely going to do this! Camera bags are expensive and I need a home for my DSLR!

4. This gorgeous Lolita Cameo Necklace by Miss Atomic.

My tightened purse strings are making passing this up painful. I absolutely adore it.

3. It’s summer … that means swim suit season!

Modcloth has the best swimwear, which is no surprise, really.

2. How to style a reverse crown braid tutorial:

This has become a go-to hairstyle now that Austin is heating up. It’s also a great, sophisticated hairdo for teaching!

1. And my current obsession: this DIY vintage camera lamp.

I need this in my life!

this week’s faves :: every day

The end of the semester always seems to be a time of reflection for me. And this week I couldn’t help but appreciate the things I have with me every day and how important they are for my daily life. Some of these may seem silly to other people, but they really are what makes up who I am and my attitude about myself and life.

Like going for evenings walks with a beautiful sunset…

Having a fun new manicure

A good jar of cold cream to wash away my makeup and moisturize my skin while I sleep…

A new ModCloth lookbook for inspiration…

And vegan popcorn tofu pizza from Wheatsville.

Now to look forward to the summer! Moving to a new apartment, finding inspiration for summer knitting, and putting together a new pattern for an upcoming pattern collection.

Another week brings another new week of obsessions. Right now it’s a combination of vintage prints and innovative home décor. But to be honest, that’s kind of all the time for me!

I can’t get over how wonderful and inspirational I find this knitting clock:

And the description is so lovely:

365 is stitching the time as it passes by. It is knitting 24 hours a day and one year at the time, showing the physical representation of time as a creative and tangible force. After 365 days the clock has turned the passed year into a 2-m long scarf. Now the past can be carried out in the future and the upcoming year is hiding in a new spool of thread, still unknitted.

If this is ever manufactured and available for sale I am 100% getting one. So clever and beautiful!

Someone I follow on twitter sent a link to this article about an IKEA catalogue from 1965, and now I’m obsessed with the entire site.

The color combinations are really appealing to me, especially the red, yellow, and green kitchen, and the combination of solid color accent pillows on black furniture with ash wood legs and a beige shag carpet. That way anything in that living room will match, no matter what gets thrown in. I also can’t decide if I think those are model shots or it’s just the staging. They kind of look like dollhouse furniture!

The ModCloth blog recently shared these photos from a 1960s beautification book that I am so in love with.

It’s like face yoga, before American really knew what yoga was. So weird and awesome.

One of my favorite blogs out there is A Beautiful Mess, which recently posted this wonderful tutorial on DIY fabric patterns using Fabric Fun dye sticks.

You better believe some DIY Doctor Who pillows are in my near future!

Have a great weekend!

friday faves :: things that make me laugh

20 April 2012 - 08:41

I stumbled upon this on tumblr … I’m guessing President Obama and the First Lady are reading a children’s story to some awesomely lucky kids and are acting it out. I choose to believe he does this in meetings to get his points across.

Sklarbro Country is consistently one of the funniest podcasts out there. The perfect mix of sports and comedy.

My boyfriend Kyle. Though I give him a hard time a lot because he makes terrible jokes (no really, he does), he does still make me giggle.

I secretly want to do this all the time when I make a good point and my students aren’t paying attention.

This panel. Every time.

…and this one.

library sleevefacing

19 April 2012 - 08:44

In case you didn’t know, the Music Library at Bowling Green State University is the coolest ever. It’s Sound Recordings Archives represents the largest collection of recorded popular music in an academic library in North America, which is why it can play this game: library sleevefacing.

I can’t get over how perfect this game is. It also makes a cool statement about popular music. The People’s Music. Now featuring 100% more People.

Time to comb through my record collection and get out a camera …
